 Witchcraft

Favorite Books

The first Witchcraft book I ever owned was Louise Huebner's "Power Through Witchcraft". Although it was inspirational at the time, many of the spells were very difficult to actually do because of the overly complicated ingredients and procedures (desert turtles and naked orgies!). Todays books are much more practical, and Witchcraft is a lot more personal and flexible. Below are some of my favorite "how-to" Witchcraft and New Age books. Books that are linked are at Amazon Books, the remainder are all published by Llewellyn Books, though most are carried by Amazon also.
Note: A lot of these books are carried on my online store. I have linked the ones I currently am selling to my store:

A great book by Ly de Angeles is "Witchcraft, Theory and Practice, Rituals Spellcasting & Sorcery"

Silver Ravenwolf has written Teen Witch - Wicca for a New Generation , a good introduction for young people.

A really informative and interesting book by Phyllis Curott, "Book of Shadows: A Modern Woman's Journey Into the Wisdom of Witchcraft and The Magic of the Goddess". It's the true story of a Wiccan high priestess' discovery of Wicca and how it changed her life. It is also a very good introduction to Wicca and Goddess lore.

A gorgeous book I stumbled upon is "The Book of Spells: Over 40 secret recipes to get your own way in love, work and play" by Nicola de Pulford. It's very reasonable (less than $20) and worth it just for the presentation and the images. The cover is a black leather looking material, with beautiful shiny silver lettering and a silver ribbon that ties it closed. Inside the end pages are red with a white silhouette of a witch and cat on a broom, and the spells are really simple and basic but beautifully photographed.

"Hocus Pocus - Titania's Book of Spells" by Titania Hardie, a third generation witch, is another beautiful book with lots of Martha Stewart-type photos of witchy stuff and some interesting spells for modern life. She also has another book called "Bewitched - Titania's Book of Love Spells".

"To Ride a Silver Broomstick", and "To Stir a Magick Cauldron" by Silver Ravenwolf. The third book is also quite good, "To Light A Sacred Flame"

Other cool books by Silver Ravenwolf are her little spell books. She also just published a book of Love Spells which I just got in and am putting up on my store.

"Wicca- A Guide for the Solitary Practioner" and it's sequel, "Living Wicca" by Scott Cunningham are indispensable for the novice or the experienced witch

"Earth Power" and "Magical Herbalism" by Scott Cunningham are excellent also
"Wheel of the Year- Living the Magical Life" by Pauline Campanelli
"The Holy Book of Women's Mysteries" by Zsuzsanna Budapest
"Urban Pagan" by Patricia Telesco
"The Complete Book of Magical Names" by Phoenix McFarland
"Psychic Self-Defense and Well Being" by Melita Denning and Osborne Philips
"All Women Are Healers- A Comprehensive Guide to Natural Healing" by Diane Stein
"The Complete Crystal Guidebook" by Uma Silbey and "Crystal Ball Gazing"
"Karmic Tarot" by Wm. C. Lammey (a card reader in Austin, Tx. who described my husband to me a year before I met him. Great book!)
"The Llewellyn Practical Guide to Astral Projection" by Melita Denning and Osborne Philips
"Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBarge, Ph.D. (actually a psychology book but very useful for dreamwork)

FICTION:

A great suspense book by Judith Hawkes, "The Heart of a Witch" is a great story about teenaged twins (a boy and a girl) who get caught up in the world of Wicca and learn not only about the Craft, but about themselves. A lot of very research about Wicca obviously went into this book, and it's a great suspense story also!
I have to mention Rosemary Edghill's "Bast Mysteries" because they are so much fun, and the crime solving heroine is a modern day "real-life" witch.
"Speak Daggers to Her", "Book of Moons" are both available in paperback.
"The Bowl of Night" is still in hardback.
All three books have just been released in an omnibus called "Bell, Book and Murder".
Rosemary Edghill also has a wonderful book called "Met By Moonlight" I found it in the historical romance section of my local mall bookstore and it does have a romance in it (albeit a very strange one), but it's a good chronicle of the Burning Times from the perspective of a modern day witch who accidentally time travels back to 17'th century England.
